Casting Call for R&D of Musical Lesbian Pirates!
We’re looking for three female disabled performers (aged 20+) for their R&D of the new musical Lesbian Pirates!
About the show
Lesbian Pirates! is the untold true story of the ruthless, maverick and lesbian pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read. These two women met in the 1710’s while cross dressing as male pirates, fell in love, slaughtered swathes of men, stole treasure and escaped execution from the law. Previously erased from history, this inspiring, rebellious, and incendiary female narrative will use original music and a cast of disabled performers to bring to life Anne and Mary’s sexy, violent and turbulent world in this anarchic and funny show.
About the team
The creative team includes award-winning director Deirdre McLaughlin, award-winning writer Natasha Sutton Williams, and Old Vic 12 and Stage One producer Steph Weller.
Who we’re looking for
Disabled performers with strong singing voices; experience of devising material in a rehearsal room; who are happy to work in a supported physical capacity; and have an interest in discussing material that focuses on characters who have experienced the journey of being non-disabled to becoming disabled.
The R&D will run from 3 - 7 June at artsdepot in North Finchley (https://www.artsdepot.co.uk/working-birthday). The space is accessible.
